Xiaomi launches the Xiaomi CC phone series after acquiring smartphone company Meitu last year. Xiaomi says the CC stands for camera+camera, a dual-camera setup on Mi CC, CC also refers to a variety of meanings including chic, cool, colorful and creative, aiming at the global young generation with its trendy design and camera features.
The first set of smartphones under the Mi CC sub brand are called Xiaomi Mi CC9 and a lighter Xiaomi Mi CC9e.
The Mi CC sub brand will further consolidate the product line that comes under Xiaomi’s Mi brand, which Xiaomi claims is dedicated to providing the most innovative and trendy smartphones with the existing number of Mi and Mi MIX series.
Recall that Xiaomi had launched a new sub brand called Redmi in January where they claimed to have sold 10 million units of the flagship Redmi Note 7 series in 129 days. However, it was said that the Redmi sub brand would be focused on delivering products with the best cost performance as seen with the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro launched recently.
The Xiaomi CC phone series will designed to be a flagship for photography and selfies with both front and back cameras, and industry-leading algorithm empowered by the newly founded Xiaomi x Meitu AI Beauty Lab.
Last week, Xiaomi posted a promo video on Weibo with 8-year-old internet sensation Gavin Thomas taking a couple of selfies with the Mi CC9e.
Meanwhile, a rendition of the Mi CC9e has surfaced online as well, giving us an idea of what the first Mi CC phone series would look like. I must confess that it looks a lot like the Mi 9 SE.
The text on the image above is clearly in Chinese which I can’t read but from what I’ve gathered, the image shows a company (Xiaomi) rep playing with the phone looking at pictures of Gavin waiting for him to come in for a photo shoot. Since everyone wants to take a selfie with the kid who broke the internet, the Xiaomi rep walks in on the official photo shoot for another, ‘improvised’ one with the CC9e.
The Xiaomi CC phone series reportedly will be designed by art students and may have some female oriented phones. Hence, it appears that the CC series will have a beautiful and attractive build/design.
The Mi CC sub brand will carry impressive photography capabilities since they will be powered by imaging algorithms from “Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab.” Hence, the upcoming CC9 and CC9e phones may feature more beauty filters and AI features for optimized photography experience and I was made to understand that the number 9 in CC9 denotes the age of the Chinese firm.
The Mi CC9e is rumored to have a 6.39-inch screen and looking at the video it seems about right. The selfies in question were taken with what should be a 32MP front camera, while a 48MP shooter is reportedly the primary one on the back. Other preliminary specs include a Snapdragon 712 SoC and a 4,000mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Mi CC phone series is set to launch – go official in China on the 2nd of July, 2019 and might come with four storage variants and three color choices. As we wait for the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro launch or availability in Nigeria, seeing any of the Xiaomi CC phone series wouldn’t be bad too, LOL.
