These Xiaomi phones will no longer be receiving MIUI updates as Xiaomi is already working on the next version of MIUI – MIUI 11.
These might come as some sort of bad news for several Xiaomi smartphone users with older models but Xiaomi isn’t the first smartphone brand to go this route because I know for certain that Apple too have released list of iPhones that will no longer be receiving recent iOS updates couple of years back.
I can understand why Xiaomi has decided to release a list of Xiaomi phones that can’t be updated to MIUI 10 and future MIUI versions. This, I believe is mainly due to hardware limitations and the age of these devices. Xiaomi has affirmed on its forum that beginning April 4th 2019; the Redmi group will quit offering software updates for these Xiaomi smartphones.
When will my
Xiaomi phone get MIUI 10 update?
Have you been wondering when your Xiaomi phone will get MIUI 10 updates? You’ve probably waited for nearly 3 months and you still haven’t gotten an OTA update notification. It’s possible your Xiaomi phone model is on the list. Check the list of Xiaomi phones that can’t be updated to MIUI 10.
There are currently six (6) Xiaomi phones that will no longer be receiving MIUI 10 updates, the phones include;
There are currently seven (7) Xiaomi phones that will no longer be receiving MIUI updates – specifically MIUI 11, the phones include;
Redmi 4 Prime
Redmi 4 Global
Redmi Note 4 (MTK version)
And Redmi Note 3.
that all seven listed phones will not receive global beta updates any more.
This means that all the listed Xiaomi phones will not get the upcoming MIUI 10/11
as much as these seven Xiaomi phones will no longer be receiving MIUI updates,
Xiaomi has mentioned that the above listed smartphones will keep on getting
Android security updates for quite a while. Xiaomi has solicited the users from
these seven smartphones to upgrade to the most recent stable ROM in the event
that they are utilizing the developers ROM.
Xiaomi will no longer develop MIUI betas for
budget Redmi smartphones
One thing I love about Xiaomi is how the firm actively engages in developing its custom Android skin MIUI. Recent versions of MIUI have always brought new features irrespective of the Android version since MIUI’s update cycle differs from Android’s. New features often make their way from the closed beta to the open beta and then to the stable channel and users’ feedback during beta plays a pivotal role in bringing new functionality to MIUI.
To streamline development, Xiaomi has also announced a new plan to focus on beta ROMs only for new smartphones and is taking budget devices out of the program.
That being said, Xiaomi is making
some policy changes for the eligibility criteria to receive MIUI beta ROMs,
according to an official post on the MIUI Forums. A MIUI project lead posted
that this move was to streamline development and channel R&D towards
optimizing the experience for newer models.
Starting from the 5th
of July 2019, Xiaomi phones older than a year (prior to June 2018) will be
gradually withdrawn from the beta program and will be offered only stable ROMs.
Newer phone models will get to participate in the ROM development process for
at least a year after which their eligibility will be determined based on popular
demand. Xiaomi said that users would be informed three months prior to
withdrawal of beta eligibility for their model and will be given the option to
switch to the stable ROM.
Ultimately, Xiaomi will no longer allow
entry-level Redmi phones to participate in the MIUI beta program. Xiaomi hasn’t
actually listed any specific models but they’ve assured users that the stable
releases will not be affected. However, users should still be able to manually
install beta ROMs by unlocking the boot loader.
We all know MIUI 11 is coming and in a bid to
maximize the current features available in MIUI 10 and fix certain issues it is
only right that we get MIUI 11.
Xiaomi is yet to announce the release date of the next-gen MIUI but rumors suggest that the company is working very hard on the software and that MIUI 11 will resolve several issues related to ads, among others. The MIUI 11 is also said to bring the popular system wide dark mode to all the compatible Xiaomi phones.
