Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi devices in Nigeria

Android 10 has arrived, it comes with loads of upgrades from its predecessor Android 9 and some smartphones have already started receiving this new update. This article focuses on Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi devices in Nigeria.

The official stable Android 10 has been rolled out for the Google Pixel series, Essential Phone and to my greatest surprise Xiaomi released the stable Android 10 for the Mi 9T Pro on the same day as Google. The Mi 9t also has the stable build but phones like OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro are on the beta build.

The source code of the new Android 10 is already up at AOSP and thanks to it, custom ROMs based on Android 10 have started surfacing online. In the latest development, Android 10-based custom ROMs for a few Xiaomi devices in Nigeria are now available.

Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi devices in Nigeria now available are the POCO F1, Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Mi 8, Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Redmi Note 7 and Redni Note 7 Pro.

Unofficially, you can try out Android 10 on the POCO F1, Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Mi 8, Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Android 10 custom ROM for POCO F1

Poco F1 users in Nigeria will be able to get the unofficial Android 10 courtesy of builds under the Potato Open Sauce Project (POSP) custom ROM. The ROM is not marked as stable, as there appear to be some issues with the fingerprint scanner not working for some users. POSP features are also lacking, but with time all these would be fixed.

Xiaomi Mi 6 users in Nigeria can also get a taste of Android 10 courtesy of unofficial LineageOS 17 builds. The only bug listed is for Bluetooth playback, but otherwise, the ROM appears to be in good shape for something that is being based on a new OS version that was launched just last week.

Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi Mi 8

For Xiaomi Mi 8 users in Nigeria, what’s available is the Pixel 3 ROM based on Android 10. This custom ROM has some issues with FPC scanners and Google Camera, but if you can overlook those, then you can go ahead and have your Mi 8 running Android 10.

Redmi Note 5 plus users in Nigeria aren’t left out too. The ROM is marked as an alpha build, so I would advise only experienced users try it out at this stage. There are issues with the Goodix-based fingerprint scanner, and issues with the thermal engine, please stay away if you expect complete daily driver material.

Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi Mi A2

Xiaomi Mi A2 users in Nigeria will be having the custom ROM based on Android 10 in the form of an alpha release of LineageOS 17. Since this is the first alpha release, it contains no special customizations just yet and can be considered an AOSP version of the ROM.

The camera app within the ROM also does not function, but you can solve this by installing a different camera app from the Google Play Store.

Android 10 custom ROM for Mi Mix 2

The same approach was deployed for Mi Mix 2 users in Nigeria as an early unofficial release of LineageOS 17 based on Android 10 is now available.

This is also a pure AOSP build, and there are a few bugs that you would need to deal with. For instance, the stock messaging app does not have notifications, and the stock clock app does not have proper alarms but again, you can remedy these by installing alternatives from the Play Store. There are some more bugs, so ensure that you apprise yourself of the same before proceeding.

For Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S users in Nigeria, you can try out Pixel 3 ROM based on Android 10. There are no bugs listed for this ROM, but I will advise you back up all your important data before you start the installation process for the unofficial software.

Android 10 custom ROM for Redmi Note 7

When I initially published the article for Android 10 custom ROM for Xiaomi devices in Nigeria, I got a lot of responses as regards the Android 10 custom ROM for Redmi Note 7.

It has finally been released and for Redmi Note 7 users in Nigeria, it comes under the device codename: lavender which has received its first builds of LineageOS 17. The list of features that are already working are quite okay, but there are some issues with encryption and Wi-Fi display. Since this is an initial release, we’re bound to come across some of these issues.

For Redmi Note 7 Pro users in Nigeria, your Android 10 custom ROM under code-name: violet, joins the list of devices with an early build of Pixel Experience based on Android 10. Just like the Redmi Note 7, a bunch of the features are working but it has been reported that some users still face same bug as regards device encryption.
